Solidarity Message for the people of Jammu and Kashmir
April 20 and 21, 2005.
We are sending this solidarity message to the Association of Parents of Disappeared People in Jammu and Kashmir, to those families who are suffering the terrible loss of loved ones and the disappeared, and to all those who are in pain. Last year when we received the news of the landmine attack we were shocked and stunned. We are deeply upset. It is difficult for us to imagine the pain and anguish of Aesia's family and friends, and everyone who was involved in this violent tragedy. We add our tears of grief to all those that have suffered and to those that mourn their loved ones and the disappeared.
The establishment of a memorial is very meaningful, as a reminder to all of us everywhere that we should never let these acts of disappearance go unforgotten and to remember those who paid the price of truth with their lives. A reminder that we should struggle continuously against injustice. Much more importantly the memorial provides a way of remembering those who are no longer here, and allows us to pay a true tribute to them - an _expression of our loss, our deep longing and our grief. Remember someone and it means that they have not lived in vain. The memorial will become a powerful remembrance, a monument for truth, a place of pilgrimage, and a way of expressing our deep hurt.
To everyone of you, we want you to know that many people throughout the world are thinking of you in these difficult days and sending you their strongest thoughts and encouragement. We are with you in spirit, in grieving with you and in honoring the dead. To those who are dejected, we feel for you in your anguish, and we pray for courage in your personal lives and renewed strength.
Yours, in solidarity,
Alan and Kate Harmer.
